About the Presenters:
William "JJ" Edmunds, CPA, CIA, Senior PBMares, LLP
Mr. Edmunds is a member of PBMares, LLP audit staff with over three years of accounting experience. He uses his experience to provide audit and assurance services to the firm's financial services clients with a focus on credit unions. As such, he serves as the engagement in-charge and assists in the firm's audit engagements by helping to plan and implement the design of the audit strategy, and by completing the necessary fieldwork.
Mr. Edmunds' professional affiliations include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA), the VSCPA (Tidewater Chapter), Association of Credit Union Internal Auditors (ACUARP), the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Tidewater Chapter, and tHRive Young Professionals of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.
Harvey L. Johnson, CPA, CGMA, Partner PBMares, LLP
Mr. Johnson has more than thirteen years of public accounting experience. Mr. Johnson is the team leader of the firm's financial services niche. Mr. Johnson's engagement experience includes both internal and external audit services for credit unions ranging from $2 million to over $2 billion. In his role as partner, he oversees our engagements by assisting in the design of the audit strategy, directing the fieldwork and reviewing the work of the staff accountants assigned to the engagements.
Professional affiliations for Mr. Johnson include membership in the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Tidewater Chapter of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he served on the board of directors for more than 5 years. He is a five-time recipient (2009 - 2013) of Virginia Business Magazine's "Super CPA" recognition in the Young CPAs category and was awarded the VSCPA's Top 5 Under 35 distinction in 2012.
At the industry level, Mr. Johnson is a member of the Association of Credit Union Internal Auditors and the Risk Management Association. Mr. Johnson is also the author of numerous financial institution articles and has been a frequent guest speaker at industry conferences and seminars, including past ACUARP webinars and has spoken at both the Region 6 conference as well as the National Conference.
