Maintaining Loan Quality in a Growing Environment, BKD

This session will discuss prudent loan growth, including insights regarding underwriting, loan concentrations, and monitoring your member business loan portfolio.

Ryan Swope, Director, BKD
is a member of the BKD Loan Review Services division. He manages loan review engagements for a variety of financial institutions. He has successfully completed BKD’s internal loan review training program as well as external courses specific to lending.  Before joining BKD, he served as an intern in the credit department of a $450 million bank.Ryan is a 2005 graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, with a B.S. degree in marketing and operations management

John Bourquard, Principal, BKD
has more than 27 years of experience working with financial institutions and leads the BKD loan review services team.  He also is a member of BKD National Financial Services Group. He founded Loan Advisory Group in 1992, and BKD acquired the practice in 1998. John has experience in commercial lending, credit quality assurance, loan approval process evaluation, underwriting procedures evaluation and loan management consulting.  Before joining BKD, John worked for a large commercial lender and a credit quality consulting group. He has authored several industry articles and is a certified instructor of the Omega Performance Commercial Loans to Small Business course.  John is a 1984 graduate of Salem State College, Salem, Massachusetts, with a B.S. degree in business administration and a 1992 graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, with an M.B.A. degree in finance. He also is a 2002 graduate of The Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.

Carrie has been in public accounting since 1997 and is an assurance partner specializing in credit unions. She manages and participates in financial and operational audits, with related management recommendations for cost savings and efficiency improvements. Carrie is responsible for opinion audits and supervisory committee agreed-upon procedures engagements. This session will provide an industry update for the ACH payment system and explore newer ACH audit requirements and common areas of weakness. In addition, this session will cover emerging payment trends and sound business practices to mitigate risk.

Adrian Brown has more than 25 years of electronic payments and e‐commerceb experience in the financial industry. Having earned the Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) certification, Adrian’s responsibilities include education and professional services at The Payments Authority, a trade association focused on growing the use of electronic payments and e‐commerce. His responsibilities include conducting Automated Clearing House (ACH) audits and risk assessments, educational workshops, and other electronic payment system professional services. Adrian speaks about electronic payments and related topics at trade and industry association meetings and conferences throughout the state and nationally. Adrian has represented The Payments Authority on various NACHA national committees and panels, and currently serving on the Internet Council Security Work Group, Same Day ACH Communications Task Group, Third Party Sender Registration Task Group and Regional ACH Associations forum’s Risk and Compliance Committee.
